The Importance of Monitoring your Online Reputation
For businesses in today's world of Web 2.0, monitoring and protecting your online reputation is getting progressively harder. The number of online sources referencing your brand or your products is constantly increasing, and very often you have no control as to what these pages say. A reputation can be maliciously destroyed online by competitors, and it's very difficult to prove and even harder to repair after the damage has been done. The key is to stay on top of it before things get out of control.
Bad Reviews
Particularly in the UK, small businesses operating in the same industry - whether in the same town or not - can be ruthless to their competitors. With average disposable income at an all time low, the level of competition for that expenditure is at an all time high. Businesses with only a handful of employees are expected to:
- Provide great customer service
- Have a competitive product and pricing model
- Adhere to regulations
- Maintain a flexible marketing strategy
And this is all expected to be done while maintaining daily operations. It doesn't take much negative content online to impact a company's revenue. One negative item in Google can have a 12-fold impact on the business, whether it is genuine, or malicious. It's not difficult to see how quickly this could result in redundancies and ruin for a small firm.

With hundreds of websites available to you, it can be hard to choose which ones have the biggest impact when people search for you. If you have a comparatively common name, you will notice that it is difficult to find yourself using Google, and this means that others can’t find you either. If you are a business, this will have detrimental effects on your turnover. Online reputation management companies such as Pure Reputation can help you by setting up and maintaining professional assets thereby raising your image online.
The first thing you must get used to doing is monitoring your own search results. You can sign up for services that alert you whenever your name, email address, brand or business is mentioned online. Google offer this service and it is great for keeping tabs on where your assets are ending up.
Secondly, Pure Reputation recommend maintain professional looking social media accounts. These will be the pages that people searching for you will find first. A varied range of accounts is important and if you have a business make sure that it is listed on services like Yelp and Google Maps for maximum exposure.
Having a great website is the least used method of maintaining a positive online presence. A website is the perfect platform to display your strengths, display your portfolio and show potential clients and employers what you can do. If you have put off creating a website because you are unsure of how to, don’t worry unduly. It isn’t difficult to get a site up and running in just a few minutes. You don’t need a web designer for the purposes of a personal website. Talk to Pure Reputation about boosting your online presence and find out more about our services on our Facebook page.
Couple Charged by Hotel for Negative Review
Following an unpleasant one night stay at the Broadway Hotel
in Blackpool, Tony and Jan Jenkinson posted a negative comment on popular
travel website Trip Advisor. They were then shocked to notice that their card
had been charged £100, leading officials to believe that the hotel may have
breached unfair trading practice regulations.
"The shower was filthy - my wife wouldn't even get into
it to wash her hair. The wallpaper was peeling off, the kettle didn't work and
there was no water at all in the bathroom," said the retired van driver.
"It was filthy, dirty, rotten, stinking hovel run by muppets."
This story should mark an interesting point in the law as to
whether one individual can be penalised by a business for publishing a negative
opinion on them on a reviews website, thereby affecting their future business.
"The hotel management clearly thinks they have come up
with a novel way to prevent bad reviews, however we believe this could be
deemed an unfair trading practice." John Greenbank, north trading
standards area manager.

Pure Reputation
Welcome to Pure Reputation, the future of online reputation management. We are an agency based in central London and specialize in fixing and protecting reputations.
Your brand’s reputation is key to its success. Reputation is what brings in new customers and keeps existing ones. When your brand is damaged, your leads dry up and your business suffers. If potential customers search your brand name in Google, will they like what they see? Do negative results come up under your website? Even before they finished typing your company name in Google, does Google Suggest show negative suggestions?
Many brands are defamed online by competitors, ex-employees and other’s trying to harm their business’s reputation. The website’s that show up are usually from powerful domains which easily outrank any positive content there might be. Moreover, customers researching your business will be more drawn to negative reviews than positive ones. You may lose them before they even click on your website. Learn more about Pure Reputation here.
Our solution is simple. We delete negative content on Yahoo Answers, Mumsnet, Scambook,Yelp and Yell.com.
